(this is copy pasted from the super secret enclave because i cannot bear to type it up twice.)
oh my actual fucking god, i hate my fucking school so much i might die from it. they arbitrarily placed enrollment holds--without informing any of us! via email or anything!--on anyone with over 90 hours, meaning any rising senior or transfer student. then when i go to enroll at my appointed date and can't, i spend three days trying to reach a person in my advisor dept and when i finally do, they tell me about the hold and that i have to meet with an advisor but "unfortunately" there are no appointments available. so i have to call her later today in the hopes that an appointment in two weeks will have opened up. meanwhile i have to email my professors and beg for them to let me enroll even though the classes are going to fill up in the meantime.
also my computer is broken, both electronically and in the actual physical sense of "something was clunking around inside so i opened it up and the hard drive enclosure was swinging loose."
--oh! one of the classes i wanted is already full! AWESOME.

my computer is broken AGAIN. i swear to god i have never had this many problems with a machine, INCLUDING the laptop i spilled soda on the first month i got it. now that festivids is nearing, this is a BIG SERIOUS ISSUE and not just a gigantic annoyance. i'm hoping i just need a new USB card, since that's where all the problems seem to be centered around, but if that doesn't work then fuck it, i'm buying a new desktop. i cannot go on bringing this thing into the shop four times a year.
ON A RELATED NOTE, what would you say the specs for a decent vidding computer are? (PC only, I've already bought Premiere.) I keep getting thrown off because I know the top of the line is for gamers, and it's been years since I had any feeling for what was average. Probably anything will be an improvement on my current system. In a dream world I'd like to keep it under a thousand dollars, because I desperately need new speakers and I already have a monitor. But running the numbers from various retailers seems to indicate more like $1300 or more :(

Guess whose nephew came to visit?! Guess whose nephew is now a 17-year-old giant?! Guess who feels really old?! /o\
So yeah, Chris was here for a night and a day to celebrate his birthday. We ended up going to see The Fourth Kind, which was awful awful awful. ( Click to read a long rant about how awful it was, with highlight-able spoilers )
Chris inexplicably enjoyed it, though, so I guess if you have a credulous teenager or grandma who likes those "true tales of alien abductions" reenactment shows, you can recommend it to them. And now my nephew has gone home and I am sad. :(

It was RIDDLE.
One listen of its incredibly repetitive eurotrash electro dance pop strains on YouTube (here - you know you want to!) brought it all back to me.

I am so glad that you exist! *beams* And I really, really want you to have a fun yuletide experience, and to write a story that makes you happy. If anything I wrote in the prompt makes you come over all funny, please remember that optional details are optional! Fandom and character/s, the rest is really up to you.
I'm hoping, though, that my request inspired you with ideas rather than distress. :) In this letter, I've tried to expand a little on why I love the fandoms and characters that I do, as well as give you an idea of my general preferences when it comes to stories. But please bear in mind that 1, you can safely ignore all this, and 2, if you go the non-ignoring route, I've included a variety of different things hoping that one of them might inspire you, not as a way to get you to include them all!

YOU GUYS YOU GUYS. so have you ever thought "hmm, yuletide, that's an awesome challenge...but what if there were something like it for vids?"
WELL NOW THERE IS. you guys i cannot EVEN explain how excited i am about this. WOULD THAT I COULD PLAY, but the combination of yuletide and term papers makes it a no-no for me this year. but next year, i tell you what. ANYWAY, go and play if you have any vidding inclinations--the minimum for the vids is only 1 minute, and they're not due until 1/10, and it's for rare fandoms, and YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO MAKE A FESTIVID.
--actually I think I am going to participate, but I'm only going to offer movies, so it can't eat up too much of my life. I can make a movie vid in 2 weeks easy. so help me brainstorm movies to request, because my memory is totally broken /o\

i calculated that if 150 rows is 50,000 words, each row is 333 1/3 words. so i will be inputting my 'word' total on the nanowrimo site rather than ignoring their emails. 2000 words today! :D now off to buy a size 8 crochet hook before i inevitably drop a stitch.

still haven't caught up on SJA--i made it halfway through the episode before last and got quite sleepy, although i then had trouble getting to sleep, hence being on the internet, BUT ANYWAY. they are really pushing this sarah jane-and-clyde-are-bff thing, aren't they? it feels more like HE'S replaced maria so far as his role on the show, and now rani is the outsider a bit. i mean, i may sort of possibly ship them when he's a bit older, because i have an older woman/teenage boy THING, but mostly i'm just deeply entertained by their being such a PARTNERSHIP. i mean, they have partner banter! equal partner banter! she laughs at his stupid jokes when they're investigating things!

I think instead of Nano, I'm going to make myself knit at least 5 rows every day. (I am a n00b to knitting so this is a significant time investment.) That way by the end of the month my scarf will be 2.5 feet long, and I will have spent much less time thinking about what an awful writer I am.

Hey there, LJ! Long time, no post! This is mostly because the last time I was tempted to post it would have been a several-page-long rant that would mostly have been "IF A GAY MAN WHO YOU ARE FANNISH ABOUT POSES WITH A NAKED LADY, UM, YES, IT IS STILL FUCKING MISOGYNISTIC (and if you really think it's not misogynistic because your fantasy actually is to be an unengaged sexual prop to a disinterested man, I kind of feel bad for you, AND YET ALSO STILL ANGRY)", and for the sake of my blood pressure I decided to keep that to myself.
Let's see, what do I have going on? I'm for some reason going through a sort of Rocky Horror renaissance--I spent last weekend watching RHPS and Shock Treatment (which, if you didn't know, is "not a prequel, not a sequel, but an equal" to Rocky itself--basically it's like an AU story about an older Brad and Janet having a different adventure, and it is awesome), downloading the only two podcasts for Rocky that exist, uploading the soundtracks so I can listen to them over and over again during work, and watching a bunch of clips of various casts on youtube. (Observation about official productions of the Rocky Horror Show--Riff-Raff is almost always cast as someone with a horrible, grating voice. Why would anyone do that to the Time Warp? D:) My nostalgic longing for the theater experience and subsequent whining to Telis about it, though, resulted in me possibly having plans to do Rocky for my birthday! Maybe I'll get my theater totals up to ten before I'm thirty, even. :D
In other news, apparently my thyroid is lazy and doesn't like doing stuff, which might explain why I'm so fucking tired all the time. (Other symptoms I have that may or may not be a result of my hypothyroidism: weakness, cold intolerance, depression, irritability. The cold thing especially makes a fuck of a lot of sense since I usually wear a hoody in my office even without the air conditioning on.) Now I have pills to take every day! Or, you know, for as long as I have insurance. We'll see what happens on that score.
And that's about it for now, I think--it was a long workday and I still have to shower, load up my ipod, pack lunch for tomorrow, and then sleeeep.
